Laverne M. Reiter, 78, of 114 Forrest St., Fairbank, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Parkview Assisted Living, Fairbank, of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 10, 1928, son of Gustav and Helena Fink Reiter. He married Alberta K. Regenold Short on June 19, 1964, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairbank. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Reiter retired from Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, after 37 years of employment. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952, and was a member of Fairbank American Legion Fortsch-Duffy Post 552 for 58 years.

Survivors include: six daughters, Veronica (Ted) Geerts and Linda (Larry) Richter, both of New Hampton, Patricia Pegg of Nashville Tenn., Mary Lange and Kathleen (Virgil) Dahl, both of Waterloo, and Bonnie (Kenny) Piehl of Readlyn; two sons, Tom (Carol) Short of New Hampton and Bob (Nancy) Erhardt of Readlyn; 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.

Preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Bertha Haun, Elsie Schneider and Eleanor Miller; four brothers, Henry, Ernest, Elmer (Matt) and Fredrick; and a great-grandson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John#,s Lutheran Church, with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, both in Fairbank. Public visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood's Funeral Home, Fairbank, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Military rites will be conducted by Fortsch-Duffy Post 552 of Fairbank.

Memorials May be directed to the church, Fairbank Fire Department and EMTs.
