Daryl Frank Hippen, 76, of Parkersburg, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 19, 1934, in Grundy County near Aplington, son of John and Irene Ostendorf Hippen Sr. He married Marie Clements June 7, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo. They later divorced.

He graduated from Aplington High School in 1953. Mr. Hippen served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 2, 1954, during the Korean Conflict, until he was honorably discharged Aug. 22, 1956. He attended Ellsworth Community College for two years. He was district manager at Aratex Services in Waterloo, retiring in the late 1980s, then was manager at Waterloo Cemetery on Kimball Avenue in Waterloo for about 10 years. Mr. Hippen was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Survived by his former wife, Marie Hippen; a son, Chad (Joan) Hippen of Washington; a daughter, LaRae (Jamie) Buhr of Center Point; five granddaughters, Lindsay Hippen, Allison Hippen, Jadyn Buhr, Taylor Buhr and Sawyer Buhr; three brothers, John (Mary Lou) Hippen, Dennis (Evelyn) Hippen and Gordon (Joann) Hippen, all of Aplington; a sister, Glenda Ludwig of Hawley, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Hippen of Parkersburg.

Preceded in death by a brother, Rueben Hippen.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ascension Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
