WATERLOO - Deana Shulman, 96, of McLean, Va., formerly of Waterloo, died at home Sept. 18, 2013.

She was born March 15, 1917, in Marshalltown, daughter of Joseph and Minnie Schwartzman Krantman. In 1938 she married Herbert Shulman MD; he died in 1995.

She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1937, majoring in journalism and French.

Survived by two daughters, Myra Shulman (Col. K.W. Gooch) of McLean and Anita Shulman of Baltimore; two sons, David (Eileen Lendman) of Jerusalem, Israel, and Joseph (Denise Larsen) of Canandaigua, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Sept. 22 at King David National Memorial Park, Falls Church, Va.

Memorials may be made to charity of donor's choice.

Deana was deeply beloved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends who will always remember her loving kindness, keen intellect, and generosity of spirit. She was a talented ceramicist and china painter and a biblical scholar with extensive knowledge of Judaism.
