WATERLOO -- John A. Kirschbaum, 86, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 26, 1927, in rural Clayton County, son of Leo and Doris Schnack Kirschbaum. He married Lillian Sindelar on Sept. 25, 1947, in Waterloo; she died July 21, 2007.

A 1946 graduate of Waterloo East High School, Mr. Kirschbaum worked for Rath Meat Packing Co. for 40 years until they closed. Later he worked at Steamboat Gardens for seven years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survived by a son, Steve (Teri) of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Schoville of Cedar Falls and Ben J. (Becky) Kirschbaum of Nevada; and five great-grandchildren, Amanda Clark, Lexi Clark, Sage Hackbarth, Kirsten Kirschbaum and Carter Schoville.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 6:30 p.m. vigil service at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
