WATERLOO - Barbara J. Hess, 77, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Evansdale.

She was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Schwäbisch gműnd, Germany, daughter of Matthias and Elisabeth Renz Hummel. She married Marvin Hess on March 4, 1957, in Vinton, and they later divorced.

Ms. Hess formerly worked for Elliot Oil Co. and Bertch Cabinet Co.

Survived by five daughters, Debbie Hale of Wynne, Ark., Pam Kabela of Evansdale, Donna Penne and Karen (Rick) Newlon, both of Waterloo, and Sharon (Dennis) Miller of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, George Hummel of Blaubeuren, Germany; and a sister, Margaret Bartkus of Terrigal, Australia.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Marvin; a grandson; a brother Mathias; and an infant sister, Anna..

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
