CEDAR FALLS - Ethel McCombs, 100, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at Mallard Point.

She was born Aug. 31, 1905, in Kingston, Ark., daughter of Clifford Reed and Irene Ellen Titus Garton. She married Wesley Blum July 23, 1925, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He preceded her in death March 14, 1937. She married Lester McCombs Feb. 3, 1973, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died Aug. 31, 1994.

She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. While attending school in Cedar Falls she met Wesley Blum. She taught school for a year and later was employed by Transamerica Insurance Co. in Detroit, Mich., for 18 years as an underwriter. After retiring in 1970, she moved back to Cedar Falls.

Survived by two sons, Robert Blum of Waterloo and Roger (Ruth) Blum of Veradale, Wash.; two daughters, Ethel Abkes of Cedar Falls and Caroline (Walter) Johnson of Aplington; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Kidder of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Merle Phillips of Wheaton, Ill., and Yvonne (Joe) Waller of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in-law, Irene Blum of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three sons, Wesley Blum Jr., Harold Blum and William Blum; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and five sisters.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Amenity Hospice.
