William E. “Bill” Burrell, 75, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Van Horne and Jesup, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, of a brain aneurysm at Hope Hospice, Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born May 13, 1934, in Waterloo, son of Clifford and Mabel Larson Burrell, and after the death of his mother was raised by his father and stepmother, Mary. He was married and later divorced.

Mr. Burrell graduated from Jesup High School in 1952 and attended Iowa State University. He left college to serve in the U.S. Army. He then moved to Van Horne where he owned and operated K&B Produce and then Kaeberle Grain for many years. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Van Horne.

Survived by two sons, Jeff (Mary) of Fort Collins, Colo., and Rick (Andrea) of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Jodi (Jody) Check of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; six grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Carolyn) of River Hills, Wis.; and his companion, Patty Snyder of Cedar Rapids.

Preceded in death by an infant sister, Arla.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Van Horne, with committal services at 1:30 p.m. at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Keystone.

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or charity of donor’s choice in his name.
