ELK RUN HEIGHTS - Loren Lester Renz, 87, of Elk Run Heights, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at ManorCare Health Services, Waterloo.

He was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Waterloo, son of William and Esther Erdmann Renz. He married Julianne Trimble in June 1948 in Waterloo.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Renz was employed at Rath Packing Co. for 34 years until their closing. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the AMVETS.

Survived by his wife; a son, Robert (Karen) of Waterloo; a daughter, Linda (Gene) Tripp of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Tony (Anne), Matthew and Adam Tripp, and Bret and Scot Renz; a stepgrandson; three great-grandchildren, Leighton, Davis and Mason Tripp; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a half brother, Leslie Streittmatter of Waterloo; and a half sister, Thea Streittmatter of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Willis.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, where visitation begins at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, with military rites conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19.

In his earlier years, Loren enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cabin in Harper’s Ferry. He will be missed by all who knew him.
