CEDAR FALLS - Harold Straub, 88, of Houston, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Jan. 26, 2008, at Odyssey Hospice, Houston.

He was born Oct. 3, 1919, in Carlinville, Ill., son of Jacob and Ida Krueger Straub. He married Grace Remington in 1942, in Missouri. She died 1974. He married Rosemary Park Dorsa in 1976.

Mr. Straub served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Women's Army Corps as a lifeguard instructor, and later he saw action in the Battle of the Bulge.

He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Missouri School of Mines and a master's in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. He began his career at Titus Industries in 1955 at their Waterloo headquarters. He retired as chief engineer in 1997 in Dallas.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Donna (Dennis) Oetting of Missouri and Vickii (Larry) Nesbit of Vermont; a son, Phillip (Rosemary) of Michigan; two stepsons, John Dorsa and Anthony Dorsa, both of Houston; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.
