SERVICES HELD ON
MONDAY MORNING
FOR ELMER CALLIES

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo, for Elmer D. "Smokey" Callies, Jr., 77, of 5030 Hammond Avenue, with burial in the Orange Township Cemetery. Elmer passed away Friday, February 14, 1997, at his home of natural causes.

He was born July 16, 1919, in Waterloo, son of Elmer D. and Beulah Moser Callies. He married Esther Arlene Murphy September 22, 1939, in Nashua, Iowa.

Mr. Callies served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a school bus driver for the Waterloo Community Schools for 30 years, and was a trucker for 33 years. He also farmed on the family century farm until retiring in 1993.

Elmer was a staunch supporter of the National Dairy Cattle Congress show and headed up the rooster crowing contest for several years. He was past Commander of Hudson American Legion Post, and past president of Cedar Valley Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife; a son David W., of Waterloo; a daughter, Barbara A. Anderson of Waterloo, and Keith W., of Manchester.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
