John Leonard Temeyer, 84, of Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Buchanan County Health Center, Independence.

He was born Jan. 2, 1929, son of Earl and Lena Temeyer. He married Louise A. Rhines on Sept. 3, 1960, in Waterloo.

Mr. Temeyer farmed for over 40 years and owned his own tiling business. He was a veteran of the armed forces, serving during the Korean War, and was a member of Hope Wesleyan Church.

Survived by his wife; two sons Jeff D. and Todd J., both of Independence; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Carol) of Independence; and two sisters, Carol (Dick) Siglin of Independence and Kathy (Rex) Hooton of St. James, Mo.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Chuck, Harold and Ray; and three sisters, June Bonefas, Marge Steinbron and Donna Lynch.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Wesleyan Church, with burial and military rites at Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at the church.
