CEDAR FALLS - Gordon A. Cowell, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at the Stanard Assisted Living Western Home Communities of natural causes.

He was born July 17, 1926, in Eldora, son of William A. and Dema G. McMillian Cowell. He married Ellen Jean Smoldt on Dec. 31, 1945, in Leavenworth, Kan. She preceded him in death June 23, 2006.

Mr. Cowell was employed as a welder by Titus Manufacturing for 24 years, leaving in 1975. He then was employed as a trucker by John Deere & Co. for nine years, retiring in 1982. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II.

Survived by two daughters, Linda G. (John) Pisney of Cedar Rapids and Connie J. (Jeff) Card of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Larry; two brothers, Glenn and Joe; and two sisters, Betty Cowell and Chloris Martin.

Private family services: will be held. There will be no visitation. Garden View Chapel, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
