CEDAR FALLS -- Gary R. Syhlman, 67, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013.

He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Cedar Falls, son of George and Jennie Aswegan Syhlman. He married Mary Ann George on July 2, 1983, in Cedar Falls.

He graduated from Dike High School in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed with Chamberlain Manufacturing and then Samuelsen Builders in Trinity, Fla. He was a deacon at Lakeview Community Church, Tarpon Springs, Fla.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Alexander (Kristi) of Des Moines, Chris (Amy) of Cedar Falls and Jeff (Cassie) Sternhagen of Grundy Center; a stepdaughter, Michelle (Jeffrey) Wilkinson of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; a nephew, Kevin (Andrea) Wilson of Britt; and four grandchildren, Emmalyn and Chase Syhlman, Ian and Lauren Casparian.

Preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Wilson.

Services: 9 a.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, with burial in Stout Reformed Church Cemetery, Stout. Visitation will be for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
