WATERLOO - Irene “Jean” McElhaney, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Sioux Falls, S.D, daughter of David and Frances Tracey Spooner. She married Howard McElhaney on June 23, 1950, in Dubuque; he died Jan. 20, 2002

She attended Waterloo school systems, and was a member of New Beginnings First Wesleyan Church

Survived by three sons, Floyd (Nancy) and John (Donna), both of Waterloo, and Jeff (Kim) of Dry Branch, Ga.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Beverly Rooff of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Patricia McElhaney; a granddaughter; a brother, Leo Spooner; and a sister, Mary Amo.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Beginnings First Wesleyan Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chaple of Memories, an Overton Family Service.
