[Cedar Falls Semi Weekly Cedar Falls Gazette, Tuesday, February 24, 1903, Cedar Falls, Iowa]

The reaper is busy in Cedar Falls:, the last one to be summoned being Mrs. J. J. Van Norden at 11:30 a.-m. Sabbath, Feb. 22nd 1903. She has been in poor health for some years a great sufferer, but only dangerously sick less than three days, death resulting from paralysis. She tried to speak Sunday morning but could only say "Willie" to her grandson, this being her last utterance.

Mr. Van Norden now quite ill and very weak, was taken sick Feb. 14th of grip. He stood the shock of his wife's death heroically and is now making slight improvement. A cablegram from their son Will, Vienna, Austria, reads: "Last greetings to my mother." Telegrams were received from their son John, San Francisco, Cal., saying: Too ill to attend funeral," also from her sister, Mrs. Gay Streeter, Crete, Neb., who arrived yesterday to attend the funeral.

Sarah C. Adams was born in 1829 at Saratoga Springs, N. Y., and after marriage to Mr. Van Norden they moved to Dyersville, Iowa, in 1856, and three years later to Cedar Falls where they have resided most of the time.

She had been a member of the M. E. Church for many years, always in her place when able, and ever ready to assist in every way to promote church interests. Her kindness of heart ever abundant sympathy, and solicitude for all in affliction, will have tender, loving remembrance by her family and friends. Much sympathy will be extended to the bereaved companion.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Rev. A. M. Billingsley will officiate.
