Memorial service for Bill D. "Doc" Syhlman, 70, will be today at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Syhlman, who was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Nov. 26, 2003. He had lived in Nile Mile Falls for 37 years.

He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and received a bachelor's degree at Iowa Teacher's College. He later received a master's degree in business from Eastern Washington University and a Ph.D. in business administration from Oregon State University.

He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Eagles and Elks lodges, the Chamber of Commerce and Brotherhood of Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Kay Syhlman; three sons: Tim Sturm of Soldotna, Alaska, Brian Syhlman of Spokane and Shawn Syhlman of Klamath Falls, Ore.; three daughters: Melinda Geiger, Laura Syhlman and Michelle Barone, all of Spokane; three brothers: Larry and Stanley Syhlman, both of Cedar Falls, and Ronnie Syhlman of Prineville, Ore.; two sisters, Marcia Syhlman and Debbie Minard, both of Cedar Falls; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
