CEDAR FALLS - Leona H. Schmitt, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, following a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., daughter of Herman and Helena Pagl Kohler. She married Kenneth R. Simmons on April 19, 1942, in Princeton, Mo. He died Oct. 20, 1973. She then married Casper B. Schmitt on Dec. 26, 1981, in Cedar Falls. He died May 31, 2005.

Prior to her retirement in 1981, she had been a shop clerk with the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for more than 25 years.

Survived by a daughter, Pamela J. (Jack) Kopnick of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Kimberly A. Szymanski of Gurnee, Ill., Jeremy K. Simmons of Olathe, Kan., and Heather L. Kopnick of Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Abby Simmons and Alexis Szymanski; and two sisters, Arlene E. Drewlou of New Hampton and Evalyn A. Rosenau of Waverly.

Preceded in death by her husbands; two sons, Ronald L. and Gregory K. Simmons; a grandson, Shane K. Simmons; twin great-grandchildren, Maddoux and Kenneth Szymanski; and a brother, Harry Kohler.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church chapel, with inurnment in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends following services at the church. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
