WATERLOO - Robert Earl Mettlin Jr., 70, of Waterloo, died at his home Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013.

He was born March 25, 1943, in Moline, Ill., son of Robert Sr. and Dorothy Purinton Mettlin. On June 24, 1967, he married Janie White in Waterloo.

He graduated from Randall High School in Randall. Mr. Mettlin worked as a truck driver, retiring in 1989.

Survived by his wife; four daughters, Jennifer (Tim) Hampton and Vikki (Ken) Hampton, both of Waterloo, Dawn (Joe) Nickersen of Nevada and Robin (Valentin) Escobar of Waterloo; a son, Brian (Jessica) of Hazleton; five brothers, Bill (Connie) Mettlin of Dinsdale, Dave (Judy) Harper of St. Cloud, Minn., Chet (Becky) Harper of Evansdale, Jim (Mary) Harper of Traer and Larry (Judy) Harper of South Dakota; three sisters, Kitty Anderson of Plainview, Neb., Sue McBride of Waterloo and Carolyn Kenntoff of Clive; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lee.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and for an hour before services Wednesday at the chapel.

Robert loved woodworking, fishing and hunting. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
