Funeral services will be at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran church for Gustav R. Gruhn, 85, of 344 Vine St., retired Waterloo businessman who died at 11:30 p.m. Friday of a heart condition at Allen Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gruhn operated the Gruhn harness shop in Waterloo for 47 years prior to his retirement.

The Rev. S. M. Schreitmueler, pastor of the First Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. Friends may call at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home from noontime today until noontime Tuesday, when the casket will be taken to the church.Friends may call at the church until service time. The casket willnot be opened following the service.

Mr. Gruhn was born on April 11, 1878 in Germany, the son of August and Marie Boldt Gruhn. He married Minnie Vollbrecht at Charles City on Nov. 28, 1900.

Mr. Gruhn began operating the Gruhn Harness Ship in Waterloo in 1901 and continued with this business until his retirement in 1948. He was a harness maker and leather worker. Mr. Gruhn was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife, at home; one son, Stanley of Duluth, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. John Wells of Arlington, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Walter [Martha] Rose of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Paul of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

The family requests memorials be made to the First Lutheran Church.

A sister, Mrs. C. A. (Bertha A.) Toepfer of Charles City died Sept. 3, 1955.
