LA PORTE CITY - Doris H. Lange, 85, of La Porte City, died peacefully, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Nov. 16, 1928, in rural Black Hawk County, the daughter of Bert and Luetta Sallee Walker. She was a 1946 graduate of Vinton High School. She married Marion “Bud” Lange on June 8, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She taught at a rural school near Brandon, worked for Roth’s Implement as a secretary where she met Bud, who was purchasing a ’46 K5 International Truck. She also worked at the canning factory in La Porte City and at the La Porte City sale barn, where she was popular for her “Sale Barn Cake.” She also worked nearly 20 years at Sears in Waterloo.

Survivors include her husband, Bud of La Porte City; one daughter, Julie (Orville) Miller, and one son, Dean (Brenda) Lange, all of La Porte City; six grandchildren, James (Julie) Frost of Waterloo, Justin (Janelle) Frost, Michael Frost, Nickole (Matthew) Stanford, Cody Ellis and Heidi Lange, all of La Porte City; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Dakota, Gabriel, Bristol and Lange; two brothers, Norman (Mary) Walker of Vinton and James (Ruth) Walker of Brandon; and one sister, Jodene (Jim) Ludden of Brandon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and his wife, Bob (Leona) Walker; and a nephew, Brian Walker.

Private family services will be held Saturday with burial in West View Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at La Porte City Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul United Methodist Church or Hawkins Memorial Library, both in La Porte City.
