WATERLOO - Maxine June Callahan McElvenny, 97, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at the Friendship Village Pavilion.

She was born May 2, 1916, in Waterloo, daughter of Martin Troy and Mildred Goss Fisher. She married Thomas J. Callahan on Aug. 31, 1935, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo. He died June 21, 1991. She married Harold T. McElvenny on Dec. 28, 1996, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Harlingen, Texas.

A 1934 graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic School. Mrs. McElvenny was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Castille 49 of Waterloo, Elks Club of Harlingen, and numerous square and round dance clubs in both Harlingen and Waterloo.

Survived by her husband; a daughter, Judith Schreiber of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Schreiber, Amy Birnbaum and John Callahan; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Rambousek of Milwaukee; two stepdaughters, Marlene (Junior) Boeckman and Rebecca Thompson, both of Waverly; and a stepson-in-law, John (Irene) Quail of Weslaco, Texas.

Preceded in death by a son, Edward Callahan; a son-in-law, Richard Schreiber; a stepdaughter, Nancy Quail; two grandsons, Thomas Schreiber and Timothy Callahan; a step-granddaughter, Susan Woodman; and stepgreat-grandson, Nathan Quail.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Friendship Village Chapel. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is assisting the family. There will be no visitation, her body was donated to Mayo Clinic.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Maxine loved to dance!
