DES MOINES - Gerald L. "Gerry" Brackin, 54, died March 1, 2006. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, at Iles Funeral Home, Westover Chapel.

Gerry was born May 23, 1951, in Waterloo, the son of John and Myrtle (Bergmeier) Brackin. He graduated from Waterloo East High School and served in Vietnam as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. On Aug. 19, 1974, he married Shari Buehler at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Gerry worked for Super Target as a Bakery Team Leader and also for Tobacco Outlet Plus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a friend to all and our lives are all better since he was a part of it.

He is survived by his wife, Shari; their children, John Glenn Brackin and Katrina (Jeff) Lindquist; four grandchildren, J.D., Hope, Delaney and Brayden; his mother, Myrtle; two brothers, Dennis Brackin and John "Mickey" (Kathie) Brackin; three sisters, Sandra (Greg) Huff, Dolene (Bob) Reichenbacker and Rebecca Brackin. He is preceded in death by his father, John Brackin.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Iles Funeral Home, Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the family.
