LA PORTE CITY - Shirley Mae Bohnsack, 79, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of La Porte City, died Oct. 25, 2013 at the Hospice House, Kansas City.

She was born Oct. 10, 1934, in New Hartford, daughter of Floyd and Lola Crosby Powell. She married Allen Bohnsack on Feb. 28, 1953, at Calvary Baptist Church, Washburn. He died Dec. 15, 2008.

She attended Sloan Wallace in Waterloo. She and her husband farmed near Keystone until moving to Vinton, and while living in Phoenix she had worked in child daycare.

Survived by three sons, Terry (Jane) of La Porte City, Jerry (Becky) of Kansas City and Tommy (Kathy) of Phoenix; a daughter, Tracie Bohnsack of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Michael, Kristen, Dustin, Nikki, Lacie, Jamie, Tosha, Tyler and Zoe; 11 great-grandchildren, Laiyken, Briggs, Haili, Cale, Jordis, Allie, Lyric, Nataya, Tevin, Morgan and Orin; and a brother, Bill (Sheryl) Powell of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Keith and Larry Powell.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer.

Memorials may be directed to the Stand Up for Cancer Foundation.

Shirley was actively involved in card club and enjoyed playing with family and friends. She will be remembered for her excellent cooking.
