Death of Mrs. Stephen Delamater* This Morning

Mrs. Caroline Delamater, wife of the late Rev. Stephen Delamater, died this morning shortly after 8 o'clock at the home of her brother, Merritt Johnson, corner of Randolph and West Sixth Streets, The cause of death was paralysis, from which deceased had been a sufferer for about four years, much of the time being confined quite closely to the house. About four weeks ago the disease took a serious turn, and the sufferer who anxiously awaited the coming of death failed rapidly, not taking any nourishment for the past three weeks. At ten minutes past 8 o'clock this morning the weary soul took it's flight from the pain-racked body.

Caroline Johnson was born May 25, 1839, twelve miles east of Cleveland, Ohio, and when only four years of age moved with her parents to McHenry County, Illinois, In 1843, the country then being new and that section was practically the frontier. She was twice married. In May, 1858, she wedded Morton Kasson, who died after they had been married not many years. She was subsequently married at Waterloo, where the family had moved in 1864, to Rev. Stephen Delamater, about twenty years ago. The Johnson family here located in a house nearly opposite the old Burlington depot. Her second husband died December 31, 1899.

Deceased was a member of the Methodist church and a regular attendant when her health and strength permitted. The funeral will be held from the First M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial will be in Elmwood.

Mrs, Delamater leaves two brothers—Merritt and Milo Johnson, and one sister, Mrs. Wlliam Kelly, all residents of Waterloo.
