LA PORTE CITY - James Lloyd Ellsworth, 65, of La Porte City, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born July 25, 1939, in Waterloo, son of Lloyd and Marjorie Slaughter Ellsworth. He married Janice Bakken July 31, 1965, at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Mr. Ellsworth graduated from West High School in Waterloo in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years as an aviation electrician, then remained living in California and worked as a lumber jack and also as a bartender for his aunt and uncle for a few years. In 1963 he returned to Iowa and retired in June 1994 as an inspector in the gear division after 31 years of employment with John Deere.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Stacey (Todd) Thomsen, Jennifer (Dwain) Sparks and Ann Buckner, all of La Porte City; a son, Jay (Jolene) Ellsworth of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; his mother, of La Porte City; and two sisters, Kathy (Jack) Barzee of Burnsville, Minn., and Amy (John) Wahl of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Mark.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at American Lutheran Church, with inurnment at a later date at West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Friends may call from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today and for an hour before services Monday at the church. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
