WATERLOO - Thelma Ruth Huffman, 91, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Allen Hospital.
She was born May 23, 1922, in Ionia, daughter of Albert and Selma Bigelow Herzog. She married Levi E. Huffman, Sr. April 8, 1946, in Waterloo. He died Jan. 1, 1983.
Thelma graduated from Ionia High School in 1940 and from La James Cosmetology School in Mason City. She worked in hair salons in Mason City and Nashua and also the Butterfly Salon in Waterloo. She then opened Thal & Elaine’s Hair Salon with her friend, Elaine Huffman. Later, she was employed with Windsor Care Center and Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center.
Survived by: two sons, Levi Jr. of Waterloo and Louis (Jan) of Spearfish, S.D.; a grandson, Andy Huffman of Waterloo; three granddaughters, Lori (Kenny) Reuter of Waterloo, Jana Huffman of Naperville, Ill., and Paula Huffman of Spearfish; six great-grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Reuter, Kelsey (Nihad Dizdarevic) Reuter, Austin and Ashlyn Huffman, all of Waterloo, and Addyson and Aaden of Naperville; a great-great-grandson, Ryen Reuter of Waterloo; a brother, Albert Herzog of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: two sisters, Madalyne Laumbach and Madonna McNally; two brothers, Gordon Herzog and Milton Herzog in infancy; and a daughter-in-law, Beth Huffman.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Thelma enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She also loved the Chicago Cubs.
