SPAFFORD, STEPHENS, DENLINGER

Curtis J. Spafford, 77, of 1332 Washington Street, lifetime resident of Waterloo, and a one-time member of the city's volunteer fire department, died Tuesday at 8 a. m. at Presbyterian Hospital of uremic poisoning.

Spafford had been struck by an automobile at West 11th and Bluff Streets Jan. 10, and suffered a broken hip. He was taken to the Presbyterian Hospital, where he remained until the time of his death.

Born Aug. 7, 1869, in Waterloo, he was the son of Charles and Caroline Spafford. He married Mary Stephens. June 3, 1896. In 1893, Spafford joined the Waterloo volunteer fire department as a member of the Red Jacket company. He continued as a member until 1904 when the volunteer fire department disbanded.

Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Miss Beth Spafford, living at home, and Mrs. Ruth Denlinger, 104 Sunnyside Avenue.

The body is at Kistner funeral home.

Funeral services for Curtis J Spafford, 77, of 1332 Washington Street, who died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital, will be conducted at 10 a. m. Thursday at Kistner funeral home by Rev. Gilbert Cox, pastor of First Methodist Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
