Robert Eugene Lovejoy, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.

He was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Cedar Falls, the son of Fred and Eleanora (Donath) Rogers, and was adopted in infancy by Verne and Carrie (Rasmussen) Lovejoy. He married Freda C. Jensen on May 18, 1944 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls and they celebrated 69 years together.

Robert graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1939. He was a quality control inspector at John Deere prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1942. Robert was assigned to the 863rd Bombardier Training Squadron in San Angelo, Texas. Following his discharge in 1946, he studied interior design at Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and was a designer for B. M. Norton & Associates in Oak Park, Ill. In 1955 Robert was a designer at Davidsons, a designer and manager of Contemporary House and Interiors of Distinction, and then started his own design studio, Robert E. Lovejoy Interiors, all of which were located in Waterloo. Robert served as instructor of interior design at Hawkeye Community College from 1967 until his retirement in 1985. He was a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers, the American Legion, and Cedar Valley Danes. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities. Robert was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his church, his many friends and students at Hawkeye of whom many still keep in touch.

Survived by his wife, Freda Lovejoy, of Cedar Falls; one son, Scott (Karen) Lovejoy, of Flower Mound, Texas; one daughter, Karen (James) Proffitt, of Marion, Iowa; four granddaughters, Ashton and Shelby Lovejoy, Amanda (Richard) Beitz and Emily Proffitt; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Carter Beitz, and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lillian Johnson and two brothers Lawrence and Leonard Rogers.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or NewAldaya Lifescapes.
