CEDAR FALLS - Leonard C. Sommer, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Western Home Communities Windhaven Assisted Living.

He was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Manchester, son of Carl J. and Margaret Vandeveer Sommer. He married Louise Toscan on May 7, 1944, in Reno, Nev. She died May 30, 1985. He then married Joyce Baker on Oct. 8, 1988, in Waterloo.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was employed as a tool and die maker for 20 years with H & H Machine Tool Co., retiring in 1985. He was past administrator of Moose Lodge 328, and was a member of Linden United Methodist Church, Waterloo.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Lynette (Harry) Banks of Grundy Center and Sandra (Jerry) Mahan of Jerico; a son, Cory (Cynthia) of Dubuque; five stepsons, Peter (Coral) Baker of Redding, Calif., Allen Baker of Cedar Falls, Larry (Lauraine) Baker of Waterloo, Lee (Sharon) Baker of Peoria, Ill., and Lynn (Pearl) Baker of Cotter, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Lillian (Pat) McFall of Windsor Heights; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by a brother, Bernard; and a sister, Nadine Kimmick.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Linden United Methodist Church, Waterloo, with inurnment in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Military honors will be provided by Evansdale AMVETS Posts 31 and 19. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
