Claudia D. Madsen was born March 28, 1920, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar Almond and Elizabeth (Mullen) McFarland Jr. She received her BA degree from the State Teachers College (UNI). On January 15, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Madsen in Waterloo.

She was a home economics instructor in the Stanwood and later Vail school systems prior to marriage and then was a juvenile probation officer in Black Hawk County in charge of recruitment and training of volunteers. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls where she served as a deacon.

Claudia is survived by her husband, Robert L. of Cedar Falls; children, David B. (Marcia) Madsen of Des Moines, Daniel B. (Anne) Madsen of Mounds View, MN, Charles D. (Rachel) Madsen of Spring Valley, MN and Barbara S. Leitch of Yakima, WA; and grandchildren, Shannon Madsen of San Francisco, CA, Donovan Madsen of Mounds View, MN, Jared (Yang) Madsen of St. Paul, MN, Sarah Madsen of New York City, NY and Ryan Leitch of Yakima, WA.

Claudia died Monday, October 18, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister in infancy; and brother, Burton McFarland.
