MAXWELL, Jvone (Lowrie) 1914-2005

Jvone Maxwell was born on March 6, 1914, in Lehigh, Iowa, the daughter of James Edward and Emma Josephine (Hanson) Lowrie. She moved to Waterloo at the age of 8 years old where she attended Waterloo schools, graduating from West High School in Waterloo. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with her B.A. degree in music, after which she attended the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago where she received her M.A. degree. She was an Associate Professor in the music department at the University of Northern Iowa from 1940 until her retirement in 1978.

On March 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to James Walker Maxwell in Waterloo, Iowa. After marriage, she and her husband moved to Detroit and later Des Moines before returning to the Cedar Falls-Waterloo area. They were both very active in the community where Jvone was well known for her musical contributions to the University of Northern Iowa and to the community including many with the theater group.

After retirement, she became very involved in Cedar Valley Hospice and was for many years assistant chairman of their volunteer program. She and her husband were also involved in St. Timothy's United Methodist Church.

Jvone died on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at the Western Home Martin Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She preceded in death by her husband on September 5, 1986.
