Charles V. Gress, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, August 28, 2009, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls.

He was born May 12, 1921 in Clermont, Iowa, the son of Claude and Tena (Benson) Gress. Charles married Norma M. Gjefle on March 29, 1947 in Cresco, Iowa. Charles was a graduate of Clermont High School and served in the United States Army during WW II in the European Theatre of Operations. He was a machinist and inspector at Viking Pump Company in Cedar Falls, retiring in 1983 after forty-two years of service. Charles was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, of Cedar Falls; a son, Gene (Deb) Gress, of Colo, Iowa, and a daughter, Kathleen Gerjerts, of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Nicole Gress of Appleton, Wisconsin, Graham (Katie) Gerjerts of Lenexa, Kansas, and Kyle (Payten) Gerjerts of Grays Lake, Illinois, and three great grandchildren, Zachary and Joshua Gress, and Reid Gerjerts.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Parker, Lyle, Kenneth, Harold, and Gaylord Gress, and three sisters, Florence Gress, Eunice Shay, and Phyllis Stankovic.

Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 6—8:00 pm Monday, August 31, 2009, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or The Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center.
