Donald H. McCalley was born May 23, 1918, in Walker, Iowa, the 2nd oldest child of Harrison Hartzell and Eva Martha (Meister) McCalley. He left school in the 8th grade and helped his family on the farm. His love for fishing and hunting developed during those early years. As a teenager, he attended tent meetings led by Oliver Smith of Littleton and became convicted of his sinful nature and put his trust in Jesus Christ as his personal savior on October 12, 1936.

On March 25, 1939, he was united in marriage to Doris M. Nesbit at the Western Avenue Gospel Hall in Waterloo. She died May 29, 1985.

He was employed by Culligan Soft Water Company delivering tanks and salt to homes in Waterloo and surrounding towns and also served as custodian at Downing Avenue for many years.

Donald is survived by three daughters, Ramona Jean (Dave) Williams and Rebecca Lynn (Ken) Nicholson, all of Cedar Falls and Nancy Ann (Ted) Stair of Hopewell Junction, NY; son, Donald John McCalley of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two brothers, Johnnie "Jack" McCalley of Manchester and Clyde Hartzell (Mabel) McCalley of Independence and sister, Hazel Marie Hemmer of Cedar Falls.

Donald was called home to his Savior, Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the Western Home Communities-Martin Center in Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Erma Duwa and Betty Lorraine Reckenberger.
