WATERLOO - LeRoy "Roy" F. Fangman, 81, of Waterloo, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Strawberry Point Lutheran Home, Strawberry Point.

He was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Dyersville, son of Joseph L. and Agnes Friedman Fangman. He married Betty Ann Amfahr on Aug. 16, 1950, in Waterloo. She died Jan. 11, 2003.

Mr. Fangman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed by John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works; owned his own gas station from 1950 to 1960; then worked for Priebe Brother's Fuel and also with Osco Drug and Southtown.

He was a member of the Men's Bowling Association, Men's Waterloo Hall of Fame, Men's 700 Club and the AMVETS Honor Guard.

Survivors include two sons, Rick (Marty) of Gilbertville and Larry of Waterloo; four daughters, Colleen (Dennis) Damon of Dunfries, Va., Deb (Russ) Youngblut of Waterloo, Patricia (Craig) Niedermann of Reinbeck and Kathy (Dana) Peiffer of Dike; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joseph (Dorothy) of Waterloo, Bob (LaVerne) of Monroe, Ga., and Marvin (Carol) of Denver; and a sister, Mary Lou (Jim) Shonka of Independence.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Aunspach and Lois Baldwin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to the church or to the family.
