CEDAR FALLS - Merrill H. Hach, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Dec. 22, 2004, at the Western Home Communities.

He was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Clutier, son of James and Freida Dose Hach. On June 4, 1949, he married Tedda Toenjes in Waterloo. She died Dec. 22, 1996.

Mr. Hach graduated from Cedar Falls High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer, serving in the Aleutian Islands. He was employed at the Cedar Falls Record and later the Waterloo Courier for 40-plus years as the commercial sales manager, retiring in 1980. He then worked for Iowa Press in Grundy Center as the commercial sales manager until 1990.

Survivors include three sons, James (Mary) and Joel (Chris), both of Palm Springs, Calif., and Jeff (Lori) of Canton, Ohio; and two grandsons, James and Jonathan Hach, both of Canton.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, John; and two brothers, Clarence W. and Robert J.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Cedar Falls, preceded by inurnment at 11 a.m. in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Sartori Memorial Hospital Festival of Trees or to the church.
