Wayne Keith Spears, 64, of 311 Ridgeway, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at his home of chronic lymphacytic leukemia.

He was born Dec. 8, 1935, in Waterloo, son of Roy Luther and Doris Francis Spears. He married Sharon Hennagir Aug. 2, 1958, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Spears was employed as a machinist for John Deere Tractor Works for 37 years, retiring in 1991, and also served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis.

Survived by his wife; four daughters: Lynn Clark of Denver, Michelle Frost and Kathleen Kuecker, both of Tripoli and Julie McCray of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Ronald D. Spears of Waterloo; and a sister, Marjorie Ellen Burkholder of Overland Park, Kan.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary by the senior citizens and St. Vincent de Paul, a 6 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Order of Foresters and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
