John "Emert" Heiple, 83, of 5910 Third St., Dewar, died Thursday Jan. 20, 2005, at Rosewood Estates of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Dewar, son of Davis Sylvester and Caroline Viola Emert Heiple.

He married LaVonna "Bonnie" Alice Richmond June 18, 1949, in Waterloo.

Mr. Heiple was employed as an inspector and supervisor at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 36 years, retiring Jan. 29, 1982. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of Dewar; four daughters: Lonnie (Mike) Jensen of Cedar Falls, Sue (Tom) Etringer of Dewar, Candy (Doug) Smith of Broomfield, Colo., and Jo (Kirk) Thedens of Waterloo; two sons, Rob (Julie) of Dunkerton and Russ (Lisa) of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; 7 3/4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul W. Heiple of Illinois City, Ell.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence Emert, Theodore (Mildred) and a brother in infancy; two sisters, Margaret (Bud) Warthon and Dorothy (Larry) Taber; and a sisterin- law, Vehna Heiple.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and for an hour prior to services Tuesday.
