WATERLOO - Emma “Jean” L. Neil, 94, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born July 7, 1919, in Oto, daughter of George and Mary Smith Lister. She married Melvin Vern Neil in January 1938; he died in December 1976.

Mrs. Neil worked as a nurse’s aide for Allen Hospital, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Hagerman Baptist Church, Waterloo.

Survived by: two sons, David (Vi) of La Porte City and Donald (Karen) of Tripoli; five grandchildren, Melanie Hass of Virginia, Shane (Carrie) Neil of La Porte City, Leslie Throuw of Illinois, Melissa (Kevin) Hingtgen of Fairbank and Bill (Holly) Neil of Waterloo; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, George, Glen, Tom and Jack Lister; and four sisters, Loretta Young, Pearl Diement, Jeanette Sands and Florence.

Family Directed Celebration of Life Service: 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, (note correct date of service) at the La Porte City Community Center, 301 First St., with inurnment in Amity Cemetery, Reinbeck.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
