GILBERTVILLE - Services for Richard J. "Dick" Lutgen, 46, of 1108 Seventh St., will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Nugent Demuth Post 714 of Gilbertville.

Mr. Lutgen died Friday afternoon (June 16, 1989) at Covenant Medical Center at Kimball Avenue, Waterloo, of injuries sustained in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Gilbertville.

He was born Aug. 30, 1942, in Waterloo, son of Francis and Helene Mangrich Lutgen. He married Carol Schmit June 27,1964, in Gilbertville. He served in the U.S. Army as an auto mechanic. He was employed at John Deere & Co. as a machine operator for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jeff of Evansdale, Rick of Waterloo and Jason at home; two daughters, Paula Ortner of Washburn and Patty Lutgen at home; a granddaughter; his father of Waterloo; his mother of Gilbertville; maternal grandmother, Leona Mangrich of Waterloo; two brothers, Gene of Waterloo and Don of Gilbertville; and two sisters, Kathy Lutgen and Connie Gardner, both of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Susan Lutgen; and maternal grandfather, John Mangrich.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oppold Funeral Home, Waterloo, where there will be rosary services at 7:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, a Foresters Rosary service at 7 p.m. Monday and a parish Scripture service at 8 p.m. Monday The casket will not be at the church prior to services.

Memorials may be made to Don Bosco High School or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, both in Gilbertville.
