JOHN H. LUNEMANN EXPIRES ON TRAIN

ON WAY TO ARIZONA FOR HIS HEALTH

Was Formerly a Banker at Dysart and La Porte City

News was received at La Porte City today of the death of John H. Lunemann, for several years' cashier of the First National bank at that place. His death occurred last night while on a train between Kansas City and Wichita, Kan. He was 46 years old.

Mr. Lunemann had been seriously ill at his home at St. Cloud, Minn., for the past three weeks. It was discovered his lungs were affected by tuberculosis. He was on his way to Arizona, in the hope that his health might be improved, when death intervened. The remains will reach La Porte City tonight, but arrangements for the funeral have not been made.

Mr. Lunemann was born in Waterloo Sept. 4, 1870, the son of Herman and Jantie Lunemann. In that same year the family moved to La Porte. The parents were born in Hanover, Germany.

Decedent was graduated from the La Porte high school at the age of 15. He then became a clerk, in W. D. Wagoner's store. Five years later he bought an interest in the store, and for six years the business was conducted as W. D. Wagoner & Company. For three years he was in the clothing business.

With abundant capital for investment he then went to Dysart and organized the First National bank, of which he was cashier. In March, 1902, Mr. Lunemann was elected cashier of the First National bank at La Porte City. In December, 1896, he was married to Augusta Miller, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. M. J. Miller. His widow and three sons survive.

Mr. Lunemann was an active member of the Methodist church, and was affiliated with the Masonic lodge, the Knights of Maccabees and Woodmen of the World.

Mr. Lunemann left his position in the bank a few years ago and bought a highly improved farm just at the edge of St. Cloud.

While in La Porte City he was secretary of the Wettstein Loan & Trust Company, and was connected with the La Porte City Canadian Development Company, and the Southern Plantation Development Company of Alabama. He was treasurer of the La Porte City Public Utility company and was connected with several telephone companies in other parts of the state. At one time he held land interests in South Dakota, Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska.

Mrs. Lunemann was with her husband when he passed away.

John H. Lunemann, cashier of the First National Bank of La Porte City, Iowa, was born September 4, 1870 at Waterloo, Iowa, and is a son of Herman and Jantie (Plumer) Lunemann.

Herman Lunemann was born in Hanover, Germany, December 19, 1824, and has been a resident of La Porte City since 1870. He came to America in 1864 and settled at Cedar Falls, Iowa, where he followed the trade of a blacksmith for three years. He lived at Waterloo for the same period, and then in 1870 located permanently in La Porte City, where for the past five years has led a retired life. In 1854, he married Jantie Plumer, who was born in Hanover, Germany, February 23, 1836, and died in La Porte City, November 18, 1898. Their children were as follows: Elzina Kober, who died in La Porte City in June, 1895, aged 36 years; Angeline*, who died in 1876, aged 15 years; John H.; and two children who died in infancy.

Herman Lunemann and his wife were for years consistent member of the German Evangelical Church, of which the former is still a constant attendent and liberal supporter. Politically, he is a Repbulican.

John H. Lunemann was brought to La Porte City by his parents at the age of three months, and here he was reared, graduating from the High School at the age of 15 years. He then accepted a clerkship in the clothing store of W. D. Wagoner. Five years afterward he bought an interest in the business, which was then conducted for six years under the firm style of W. D. Wagoner & Company.

In December, 1896, Mr. Lunemann was married to Augusta Miller, who was born March 23, 1872, at Mendon, Michigan, and is a daughter of Rev. M. J. and Sabina Miller. One son has been born to this union, namely, John Miller Lunemann. Mrs. Lunemann is a lady of much culture, and a prominent figure in the social life of la Porte City. She was educated at the Iowa State Normal School at Cedar Falls, and was a successful teacher in the public schools for about seven years.
