WATERLOO - Clara A. Smith, 89, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at the center.

She was born July 9, 1917, in Orient, S.D., daughter of Edward and Aenid Fallgatter Smith.

She graduated from Dinsdale High School in 1937 and Gates Business College in 1952. Miss Smith worked as a clerk at Black's Department Store. She later worked as secretary for the Civil Defense in Waterloo.

Survived by a sister, Laura Brubaker of Traer; two nieces, Vivian (James) Emme of Hendersonville, N.C., and Rebecca (Edward) Polgar of Minong, Wis.; and a nephew, Randy (Mariel) Brubaker of Traer.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, with burial preceding at 10 a.m. in Grant Township Cemetery, Dinsdale. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m.
