Everett Edward Ortman, 89, of Dysart, died at his home Monday, June 1, 2009, following an extended illness

He was born Nov. 30, 1919, in St. Paul, Minn., son of William E. and Elizabeth Jager Ortman. On June 22, 1947, he married Anna Ledl at Ripley Congregational Church, Traer.

Mr. Ortman attended school in Cedar Falls and later served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He had farmed in the Traer, Clutier and Dysart areas, retiring in 1985.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Michael (Sandra) of Waterloo and David (Holly Paradine) of Reinbeck; a brother, Royce (Lucille) of Yuma, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by a son William; and a brother, Vernon.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, Dysart, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice in Grundy Center and Dysart Public Library.
