Was Former President of
Commercial Body and Active
in Civic Work.

Charles. V. Simmons, a former well known business man of Waterloo, died at 7:30 a.m. today at his home in Chicago after an illness of several months' duration. He was 48 years old. Last winter he suffered a severe attack of influenza, which developed a heart weakness and it was this that caused his death.

He was the first president of the Greater Waterloo association, active in all movements which had the advancement of the city, at heart, was active in Boy Scout work and was a member of First Congregational Church.

In 1892 Mr. Simmons and Kirk Stewart bought E. S. Miller's job printing plant and started the Stewart- Simmons Company, now located in its own building at 714-716 Jefferson Street. Prior to that date both young men had worked at the printer's trade In Chicago.

Mr. Simmons left here four years ago for Chicago where he acted as general manager of ihe Rogers company, printers and advertisers. More recently he was associated with the Blakeley Printing company, Chicago.

Charles V. Simmons was the son of the late V. L. Simmons, an early day Waterloo photographer. The family came here front Sublette, Illinois. In 1B94 Mr. Simmons married Carrie Colby, who, with a son, LeRoy (Bud) survives. A sister, Mrs. W. P. Robinson lives at 827 Lime Street.

Another son, Charles V., Jr., died about five years ago.

The body will be brought here for burial, but details of arrival and the funeral were lacking this afternoon.
