EVANSDALE - Rick Thorp, 51, of Yokohama, Japan, formerly of Evansdale, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, in Yokohama.

He was born July 20, 1954, in Waterloo, son of Robert and Elizabeth Thorp. He married his wife, Mitsuko, in Japan.

He was a 1972 graduate of Waterloo East High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Yokohama. Mr. Thorp was currently an English language teacher in Japan.

Survived by his wife, Mitsuko; three daughters, Emi Thorp, Eri and Edi, all of Japan; two granddaughters; two sons-in-laws, both of Japan; three brothers, Randy of Fairbank, Dave of Hazleton and Dwayne of Streamwood, Ill.; and two sisters, Karen Shelton of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Janet Davis of Oelwein.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ Church, Oelwein. Services and cremation were today in Yokohama.
