Louis H. Martin, 71, of 1210 Mulberry St., died at 8 p. m. Tuesday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital. Martin suffered a heart attack at his home. The inhalator squad of the Waterloo fire department was called, but Martin failed to respond.

The son of John and Minnie Miller Martin, he was born in Maquoketa on Jan, 8, 1884. On July 28, 1909, he married Miss Elizabeth Kauten.

For 24 years Martin was employed as a toolmaker at the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1952. He was a member of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church and a charter member of Local 838 UAW-CIO.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Wright of Hudson; three sons, Harold of 1226 Hawthorne St., John P. of 923 Kimball Ave., and Robert G. of Hudson. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and two sisters Miss Minnie Martin of Cleveland. Ohio, and Mrs. John Knott of Jansen, Neb.

He was preceded in death by one son and one brother.

The body is at O'Kcefe & Towne Funeral Home, where funeral arrangements are pending.
