Obituary--
Eugene D. Rindels, age 85, of Shell Rock, died Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Waverly Health Center in Waverly.
Eugene was born in Eldora, Iowa, on June 27, 1928, the son of Jake and Anna (Mohlendorf) Rindels. On September 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Stella Hughes in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The couple lived in Omaha where Eugene was self-employed in the construction industry. In 1960, they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, and started Rindels Trucking. The family moved to Shell Rock in 1972 where Eugene continued trucking and farming. He retired from trucking in 2002.
Eugene spent many hours in his younger years hunting jack rabbits with good friends, Frank Smith, Jack Martin and Bud Lauer. He had an eye for older cars, especially the 1949-50 Mercury. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren's sporting events.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Stella, of Shell Rock; daughter, Linda (Jay) Johnson of Clarksville; son, Bob (Jane) Rindels of Shell Rock; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, LaVern Rindels of Waterloo and Harold "Lee" (Georgia) Rindels of Cedar Falls; sister, Helen Danner of Cedar Falls. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Craig Eugene Rindels; brothers, Calvin and Duane Rindels; sisters, Irene Juhl, Vivian Hawley, and a sister in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Peace Lutheran Church in Shell Rock. Burial will follow in the Hudson Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock and for an hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
