LA PORTE CITY - Virginia M. Miller, 82, of La Porte City, formerly of 5825 Hess Road, Waterloo, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born May 20, 1923, in Waterloo, daughter of Arthur W. and Ora Velma Kessler Smith. She married Ray J. Miller Sept. 19, 1942, at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren. He died Jan. 30, 2003.

She graduated from Orange Township High School in 1941 and later from Gates Business College. Mrs. Miller worked at the Waterloo Savings Bank and then she and her husband farmed in Orange Township.

She was a member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, 1530 Club and Waterloo Elklets, and she was very active in farm-related organizations.

Survived by two sons, Donald R. (Gail) of La Porte City and Joe A. (Mary) of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Tracy (Nick) Vazzana, Wyatt Miller, Todd (Jennifer) Miller, Brad (Evita) Miller, Ben Miller and Tara (J.T.) Anderson; and five great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Vazzana, Jenna Vazzana, Morgan Miller, Brexton Miller and Jackson Anderson.

Preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jackson; a son, Kent Allen; an infant son, Byron Reed; a brother, Clair Smith; two sisters, Lois Bidwell and Eleanor Brown; and a half brother, Wayne Smith

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, with burial in Orange Township Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo.
