Held Friday For
Ron Thompson, 22

Funeral services for Ronald E. Thompson, 22, will be held Friday morning, June 20, at 10 a.m. at the Kearns-Dykeman Chapel, Waterloo. Rev. Calvin Fick will officiate with burial in the Hudson Cemetery.

Ron Drowned, after he fell into the Cedar River while fishing from the Chicago Northwestern railroad bridge near 7th Street in Waterloo Saturday afternoon. His body was recovered by Waterloo firemen about 8 p.m. Monday night after dragging operations had begun on Saturday. Witnesses reported that he fell from the bridge and appeared to be ill. He was an avid fisherman and swimmer and had taken life saving.

He was born on September 15, 1952, at Charles City, the son of Robert R. and Beverly Shoemaker Thompson. He was a 1971 graduate of Hudson High School and was employed as a press operator at Universal Industries, Hudson.

He is survived by his parents, one sister, Pam, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Vernon Moyer of Safford, Arizona, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lila Thompson, 213 Pleasant Drive, Hudson and his paternal grandfather, Ben J. Thompson, 718 West 18th Street, Cedar Falls.

Visitation at the Kearns-Dykeman Chapel will be after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
