MRS. MARY REIFF PASSED AWAY ON SUNDAY

Came to Pioneer Waterloo Forty-four Years ago.

On Sunday morning at 10:05 o'clock, Mrs. Mary Reiff, one of the pioneer residents of Waterloo, passed away at her home, 207 Adams street, after a three weeks' illness, death being due to old age and heart complications, Many friends, who have known, her through her long residence here, will regret to hear that she is no more.

Deceased was born near Traer, Province of Luxemburg, Germany June 24, 1833, her maiden, name being Mary Lenz. At the age of twenty-three years, she came to the United States and lived for a few years near Bellevue, Jackson county, where she, was married nearly fifty years ago to Peter J. Reiff. With her husband, she came to Black Hawk county forty-four years ago and during all those years, the family resided in Waterloo.

Her husband preceded her in death, nine years ago but one son and four daughters are left to mourn, these being: Nicholas J. Reiff, Clara Reiff, Mrs. Kate Williams, Mrs. James McLaughlin, Mrs. W. W. Fritsche, all of Waterloo. One brother, Philip Lenz of Washington State; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Herkes of Balltown, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Heber of Waupeton, Iowa; also left to mourn are eight grandchildren of whom the married ones are Wm McLaughlin and Mrs. Ray A. Dunkelberg, both of Waterloo. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McLaughlin is the only great-grandchild.

Deceased was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church, and the funeral will be conducted there Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, by "Father Forkenbrock. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
