William Ignatious Murphy Jul. 24, 1900 - Sep. 1, 1964

William I. Murphy, 64, of 119 Locust St., who was a salesman for 37 years for the Colgate- Palmolive Co. prior to his retirement, died Tuesday after noon at the Veterans' hospita at Iowa City of a heart attack and a complication of ailments He had been at the hospital for four months.

He was born in Fort Logan Colo., on July 24, 1900, the son of John and Elizabeth Murphy He was educated in the school there and worked at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, where he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served during World War I.

Mr. Murphy was employed by the Palmolive Co. following World War I and continued with the company after it merged with Colgate and remained until his disability retirement in 1962, when he was honored at a farewell banquet in his honor.

He married Helen Longanecker of Centerville, at Trenton Mo., on Oct. 21, 1933. They resided here since 1940, coming to Waterloo from Lincoln, Neb. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Surviving are his widow; one son, Jack I. of 618 W. 9th St. one grandson; and three sisters
at Fort Logan, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one sister; one brother and one grandson.

Funeral services will be conducted at a Catholic church at Englewood, Co. The Bullock Funeral Home at Englewood will have charge of funeral arrangements.

Burial will be in the Marine division of the National Cemetery at Fort Logan.
